Gaza shells project
Over December 2025 and January 2026 I raised £240 for Medical Aid for Palestinians and £100 for Gaza Infant Nutrition Alliance through handmade ceramic shells. Like many sustainability professionals, I had been seeking meaningful ways to support Gaza relief - from policy advocacy to knitting baby items for newborns. These shells represented my latest contribution. The PayPal fundraiser is now over but if you want to make a contribution you can get in touch with me to donate in return for any of the shells still listed as available below. I've left in the information about the shells project for context below. Thanks a million to everyone who contributed to the fundraiser.
After joining an overcoming overwhelm session from Sustainable Sidekicks I was clearer about how I could use my own agency to help those most deeply affected. I created ceramic shells with the intention of gifting them to people in return for a financial donation to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
Why shells? Well I'm a great lover of the sea and my family come from Cyprus, just over the sea from Palestine. But more than that, the scallop shell is a symbol of pilgrimage and protection. It feels right to use this shape to send out a message of hope, love and protection to the people of Gaza.
I set up a fundraising page for donations and recommended a minimum donation of £15 for small shells and £25 for large ones. I covered all the costs of time, materials and firing of the shells with generous support from Claire Bevacqua at Palmers Green Pottery.
I've added photos and descriptions of all the shells below based on the glaze colours used. The small shells are about 6cm and the large are about 10cm but they all vary. Browse the shells that are left and let me know if you'd like to get a shell in return for a donation by emailing me.
Thanks for your support, Angela
